Medical Transcription With No Experience: Can You Transcribe With No Previous Work History as an MT?

You may be wondering if all great jobs require experience. It seems that no matter where you go, all the good jobs are taken, and the one’s that aren’t require a couple of years of experience. What about the people who need to get to work right now? If you’re interested in transcriptionist work, there are some companies that will hire you if you have no experience.

Not everyone has the time or money to go through with a training program, so it is understandable that there are quite a few people out there who are looking for transcriptionist work with no experience required. The only downside to working as a transcriptionist without experience is the starting pay. You’re not likely to be paid the same amount as someone who has completed a year or so of training. However, if hired, there is always the opportunity to receive pay raises.

The future for someone who wants a part in transcriptionist work with no experience is ultimately just as bright as someone who has five years of experience. The only difficult part is convincing a company to let you work for them. There is always the option of going to the library, grabbing a couple of medical terminology and grammar and punctuation books to skim through. Once you are confident enough in your skills, start applying to a few online companies.

If you’re really in need of a job, then it wouldn’t hurt to also send your application into a couple of recruiting companies. Medical recruiting companies are like the staffing agency for potential medical transcriptionists. They help you to find work whether you are experienced or not.

The best thing to do if you have no experience when applying for transcriptionist work is to offer your services for lower pay. Although offering your services for lower pay may seem absolutely insane, it pays off in the end. You’re more likely to be offered a job with good pay within a couple of months to a couple of years. In the worst case scenario, you’ll just end up working for free and gaining experience. It happens all the time, and it’s one of the best way to polish up on your skills.

You might even want to consider offering your services for free. It definitely sounds even more crazy, but it’s a wonderful way to score a great job. Try to find a place that starts paying at a higher rate, such as .10 or .12 cents per line. All you have to do is locate some online transcriptionist work companies, and give them your free offer. Either you hear a reply or you don’t, but it’s worth the shot. Just think about it, if you work for free for a year, you’re bound to get hired within the next six months or so. If not, you can at least say that you have that much experience working for a transcriptionist company.

The worst thing you can do when trying to find work with no experience is give up. Put your faith in the fact that people with determination and ambition always rise to the top no matter how much experience they have. If you want to get into transcriptionist work, then it’s something you’re going to have to give your all to. Just know that there will be a time when all of your hard efforts finally pay off.
